Baseball disappearance: It can happen so slowly that you might not notice until one day it seems like half of your supply is missing.
Baseballs are easy to lose, but small businesses can’t afford to ignore the cost of frequent baseball replacement.
So, what to do?
Our first attempt to track baseballs at DNA Sports Center was to write our business name on each ball with a Sharpie. (It didn’t help.)
Then, we asked instructors to provide and track the baseballs for their own lessons, with somewhat more success.
But I just heard of a foolproof way to track baseballs that costs as little as $15.
Micah, the owner of NSX Dugout, has been using my baseball scheduling software for the past year. He let us in his solution: A simple scale. He weighs buckets of baseballs before and after each cage rental to make sure none have gone missing.
It’s easy! And it works.
Plus, Micah uses eSoft Planner’s “upsell” feature to allow his customers to upgrade their rentals to include genuine leather baseballs. Otherwise, customers get standard baseballs – but keeping the premium balls separate is another way he protects his business.
Do you have any suggestions for preventing baseball theft? I’d love to hear it — please leave a comment below.
